My Favorite Things – Sci Fi and Fantasy Novels, Making Music, Writing Fantasy Novels, Absurdly Long, Ridiculous Titles … and Did I Say Writing?
And Earth Wept …
If you’re thinking, Now comes the “Lists”, you’re wrong … mostly. Way too many favorites over the too many years. And, as I’ve confessed before, I’m a shameless re-reader. Having said that…

Best science fiction: Easy (sorta). Dune … and a hundred others.
Best fantasy: Not so easy. I love epics and long series and hate coming to their ends. That is IF the author finishes them (another round of poxes on RR Can’tFinishWhatHeStarted Martin). Tolkien led the way, at least in my lifetime, and there have been so many who have broken into new, unknown and undreamt of realms, but yeah, Steven Erikson’s epic, Book of the Mallazan Fallen series is so right up there. (By Book II I think he had discovered his writing stride and style. I only hope folks will say something similar about moi. I think my later novels get better as I figured out this whole writing gig thing.) But like any book, ask me what’s my fav when you see a Book II or III in my hand and I’ll struggle mightily to give ya a simple answer. There’s just so much that’s really good out there – old and new. And little secret, I’ve been an avid reader since I first discovered Burrough’s Tarzan and Howard’s Conan when I was 15 and worried about girls and pimples. Now I’m a freakin’ Gandalf and worried about …well, lots a things.
So what’s in your favorite books wallet?
